Why Art of a Pilgrim?
Why not “Art of Patrick Concepcion” or “Patrick Concepcion’s Newsletter”?
I have been drawn to the image of a pilgrim. A pilgrim is a person who is on a journey; he is a traveler. Another thing to highlight about a pilgrim is that the pilgrim always has a destination.
I encountered a saying from the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal that touched my heart. I am not sure where its origin comes from but I heard it from the friars. The saying in Spanish goes:
“Somos peregrinos caminamos al Señor; poco a poco vamos a llegar.”
The English translation is:
“We are pilgrims walking to the Lord; little by little we will arrive.”
This really stuck with me. Life is a journey and God is the destination. In many ways the journey is a long winding road. Sometimes we aren’t even on a road or path. We get lost; we wander. Although we lose our way at times, there is still hope. The hope is that little by little through God’s grace we will arrive.
So what does this have to do with my art?
In a way, my art is always influenced by where I am in my own life journey. Whether I am on a path, lost at sea, in fields of green, I am always inspired to make art. My hope is that my art would inspire you in your own journey.
