Book Launch Update
We recently had a team meeting for the launching of the book. So far, the plan is to have a three to four month advocacy campaign. Through the sales of the book, we want to be able to reach out to public schools or underprivileged communities.
There is a very poor literacy rate in the Philippines. A lot of Filipino children have struggles with reading. There are studies regarding this problem we are currently facing. Here are just a few articles I found on the matter:
With our “Where is the Light?” campaign, we want to address this issue in our own little way. We are hoping to concretize our campaign planning as soon as we can. I can say that we will officially start selling books by late July or early August.
Early Concept Art
I want to share a few illustrations I did at the early stages of creating the story for “Where is the Light?”.
When I made these sample illustrations, the story still wasn’t the finished story that it already is today. The whole process had A LOT of revisions. Initially, I wanted the children in the family to get lost in the forest. Then their parents would go looking for them.
The story now has changed wherein the family now goes on an adventure and an accident happens wherein the daughter gets trapped and the rest of the family have to go find her.
As for the illustrations, I started working with a lot of blue and gray. Then I wanted to create a contrast with yellow, orange and red for the light. Below are a few more sketches where I work with the color and contrast.
As I showed in my post a few months back, the illustrations ended up in full color. There are still pages that show the color contrast I initially wanted to work with.
I hope you enjoyed this bit of concept work for the book. I will share more as we lead up to the launch.
